Well, according to the Mayo Clinic, Mild Cognitive Impairment is a state of cognitive decline that is the in-between stage between typical cognition and dementia. Most people with MCI are aware of their memory and mental ability decline. At this stage, family and close friends also tend to notice changes. But the decline isn’t severe enough to prevent the affected person’s carrying out of most of their activities of daily living.

A person with mild cognitive impairment can remain at this level of impairment for years, getting by with compensating strategies and the help of family. But about 15% of people with MCI go on develop Dementia within two years. Within 5 years, about 30% of people with MCI get diagnosed with dementia, and within 10 years about 50% of people with MCI go on to develop dementia, primarily Alzheimer’s Disease dementia.
