According to the Mayo Clinic, dementia is a term used to describe a group of symptoms affecting memory, thinking and social abilities. The decline in function in these areas typically interferes with affected persons’ daily lives. Memory loss is usually the hallmark symptom, but disturbances in behavior, feelings, relationships and motor function are also involved. Dementia’s really is an umbrella term, as it is not just one disease. In fact, there are several types of dementia, with different causes.
