Over the years, Dr. Bredesen’s team has identified at least 36 contributors to cognitive decline. And most people who have already been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or mild cognitive impairment or subjective cognitive impairment turn out to have between 10 and 25 contributors to their cognitive decline. Reversing these contributors has proven effective in improving cognition and overall health and function.
By 2017, Dr. Bredesen had found that his patients were falling into about 4 different buckets of slightly different Alzheimer’s. It wasn’t just one blanket diagnosis for everybody that one “silver bullet” drug could cure. Fast forward to today, in 2025, Dr. Bredesen’s team has found this list of subtypes expanding from four to six. On the last episode we talked about Type 1: Inflammatory. Now we’ll get into Type 2.
